One of the common conditions we help with is TMJ Pain tension and discomfort in the jaw that affects far more than just chewing.
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge connecting your jaw to your skull, and it’s one of the hardest-working joints in your body — active every time you talk, chew, yawn, or swallow. When the muscles surrounding this joint become tight and overworked, the result is TMJ pain.
The most common culprits we see are clenching and grinding, often during sleep or periods of stress. Hours of unconscious clenching leave the jaw muscles exhausted and knotted. Poor posture plays a role too: a forward-head position changes the way the jaw sits and rests, forcing these muscles to work overtime all day long. Add in stress, and the jaw becomes one of the body’s favorite places to hold tension.
What are the symptoms of TMJ Pain?
TMJ pain typically shows up as aching or tenderness in the jaw, especially around the joint just in front of the ear. Many people notice clicking, popping, or a grinding sensation when opening the mouth, and some experience moments where the jaw feels like it catches or locks. Chewing tough foods, yawning widely, or even long conversations can bring on discomfort.
But TMJ pain rarely stays confined to the jaw. Because the jaw muscles connect so closely with the head and neck, it commonly causes headaches around the temples, earaches or a feeling of fullness in the ears, facial tension, and neck pain. Many clients have spent months treating “ear problems” or “headaches” before discovering their jaw was the real source.
Day to day, TMJ pain wears on you in small but constant ways — hesitating before biting into an apple, waking with a sore face and tired jaw, feeling the tension climb through the afternoon. Over time it affects eating, sleeping, and even your mood.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating TMJ Pain?
Our approach starts with a thorough assessment of the muscles that move and stabilize your jaw — the masseter, the temporalis at the temples, and the deeper muscles along the jawline — as well as your neck and posture, since these are almost always involved.
Treatment focuses on releasing the trigger points and chronic tension in these muscles using precise, targeted techniques. Because the jaw works as part of a system with the neck and shoulders, we address the whole chain: relieving the neck tension and postural strain that keep pulling the jaw out of its comfortable resting position.
As the muscles release, clients typically notice the jaw opening more freely, the clicking easing, and the headaches and facial tension fading. We’ll also give you practical tools — awareness techniques for daytime clenching, gentle jaw stretches, and posture adjustments — so the relief lasts well beyond the treatment table.
