Spacibo Therapeutic Massage

One of the common conditions we help with is Tension Headaches the kind that build through the day and just won't quit.

Most tension headaches don’t actually start in the head. They start in the muscles of the neck, shoulders, and scalp. Long hours at a computer, stress, jaw clenching, poor sleep, and forward-head posture all cause these muscles to tighten, and that tension refers pain upward — creating the familiar dull, squeezing pressure around the forehead, temples, and base of the skull.

Many of our clients arrive having tried everything from painkillers to caffeine to dark rooms, only to find the headaches keep returning. That’s because those approaches address the symptom, not the tight, overworked muscles that are producing it in the first place.

What are the symptoms of Tension Headaches?

A tension headache typically feels like a dull, constant ache or a band of pressure wrapping around the head — many people describe it as wearing a hat that’s two sizes too small. The pain is usually on both sides, often paired with tightness or tenderness in the scalp, neck, and shoulder muscles. Unlike migraines, tension headaches rarely cause nausea or visual disturbances, but they can absolutely wear you down.

They often start mid-morning or mid-afternoon, build gradually, and can last anywhere from thirty minutes to several days. For some people they become an almost daily occurrence — a low-grade drain on concentration, patience, and energy.

Over time, frequent tension headaches take a real toll. They make it harder to focus at work, sap your enthusiasm for exercise and social plans, and interfere with sleep — which, in turn, makes the muscle tension worse. It’s a cycle that rarely breaks on its own.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing / Treating Tension Headaches?

We start by finding the actual source of your headaches. That means assessing your posture and carefully examining the muscles of your neck, shoulders, jaw, and scalp for the tight bands and trigger points that are referring pain into your head. In most clients, we find them quickly — and pressing on them often reproduces the exact headache they’ve been living with.

Treatment focuses on releasing those trigger points and loosening the chronically tight muscles at the base of the skull, along the neck, and across the tops of the shoulders. As this tension releases, the pressure feeding your headaches releases with it — many clients notice the difference after the very first session.

We then help you keep the headaches from coming back. We’ll look at the daily habits driving the tension — desk setup, phone posture, stress patterns — and give you simple stretches and self-care techniques to use at home. The aim isn’t just a headache-free afternoon; it’s headache-free weeks and months.
